More Acreage

It's been much, much too long since I've updated this blog. My apologies to those who follow us. These past couple months have been filled with so much activity; planning, building and dreaming that it has been hard to stop and capture the moment as it were. So, here's an attempt to do just that; capture some of what we have been up to and how the farm is taking shape.

We have ended up with a few more acres than we had originally bargained for. We initially agreed to purchase 53 acres but upon receiving a copy of the survey, we noticed that the seller had recorded a right-of-way running right through the middle of our land. This right-of-way ran within a couple feet of the building that we plan to convert into a guest cottage! The problem was with an area that became known as "the back field." An area measuring about 23 acres of mostly open land. The thought of someone purchasing the 'back field', developing it with multiple homes and then having the new home owners driving down our driveway all hours of the day and night just didn't appeal to us. So, we began the process of negotiating the removal of the right-of-way.

We went back and forth with the sellers; all in a very amicable manner but we just couldn't come to an agreement until we offered to purchase the problematic 'back field.' Well, we agreed to purchase the additional acreage for a reduced price per acre. So now the size of the farm is about 80 acres. Certainly more than we need but overall a very pleasant and satisfying piece of Virginia farm land.

The Reunion and Engagement!

On May 16th, our extended family gathered together for the first time in about 7 years. It was an absolute delight to be and share the farm with everyone. Of course there was more to celebrate than just the purchase of a piece of property. We had the pleasure of introducing everyone to Annah Limmer; our son Joshua's fiancé. Annah took to the family and the farm like a duck to water! (sorry for the analogy Annah) We had a great time getting things ready for guests, showing people around, discovering new things about the farm and just enjoying each other's company. A good time was indeed had by all!

All the photos in the above collage were taken during the past weeks. With the next post, I hope to take the time to write a caption for each one and thus give you more of a feel of who/what/when and where at Restoration Farm.
