Bear on the Farm

With every turn and each new season, the farm yields its secrets and surprises. We now have confirmation that a black bear has taken up residence some where on the property or very close by. He is shy; not showing himself to us personally but we see his droppings (skat) and other evidence that he is around. One such piece of evidence is the tell tale scratchings on fallen trees. Bears generally feed on vegitation and wood eating bugs. They scratch the fallen tree until it yields the a tasty morsel. So far, I'm the only one who has spotted the bear. I saw him running at full speed across the front corn field. He had apparently been scared from his hiding place by a couple deer hunting dogs.

We continue to prepare for the arrival of several volunteers in the coming weeks. Hopefully, we will be able to pour concrete next week for the floor in my shop. This will enable us to set the columns that will hold up the second floor above the shop. This area will be used for storage.
